CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- (KSWB) -- Eddie Olsen says he was compelled to do something in honor of Anthony Hofer, whose body was found along Heritage Road in an isolated part of Chula Vista last week.
Police believe Hofer was the victim of a hit-and-run driver.
Olsen, who had known Hofer for about four years, has started a petition to get the City of Chula Vista to install cameras and/or other safety measures in the area where his friend was killed.
"I thought, how can I make this road safer?" Olsen said. "I know this road has no surveillance cameras, no speed bumps, no traffic lights and I know law enforcement rarely patrols this area. I thought of a petition -- get a certain amount of signatures and show them to the city council and mayor so they can listen to me adding more safety features for our community."
Olsen's online petition has already gathered almost 1,900 signatures.
