Grandpa tells court why he left granddaughter in desert for hours

PHOENIX -- (KNXV) -- An Arizona grandfather facing child endangerment charges after he left his granddaughter in the desert for hours tried to explain his actions to a judge Tuesday.
Paul Rater , 62, left his Buckeye home Sunday to take his daughter for a ride in his truck through the washes near Rainbow Valley.
He was in court to make his initial court appearance.
