LOS ANGELES -- (KTLA) -- LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the shooting at UCLA Wednesday morning was a murder-suicide.
The campus has reopened and the lockdown has been lifted, UCLA officials said. Classes were canceled for the day and are expected to resume tomorrow.
There have been no reports of other injuries at the school.
The shooting occurred about 10 a.m. in a small office in the Engineering IV building where two men were found dead, Beck said.
A firearm was recovered from the scene. Beck said the relationship between the two men was unclear. They have not been identified.
The shooting was originally reported at Boelter Hall. Students were alerted of the incident and told to shelter in place as officials swarmed the area to look for the shooter.
The massive multi-agency response included personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department, FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
About 100 LAFD firefighters were on the scene, including Tactical Emergency Medical Support teams, according to the agency.
The city of Los Angeles was on tactical alert as of 10:30 a.m., according to the LAPD, and motorists were asked to avoid the campus.
People leaving buildings and getting out of the area were asked to put their hands on their heads and some were searched as a precaution, aerial video showed. Police went room to room in the surrounding buildings and escorting people out. Many were asked to kneel down as an officer with a rifle searched his belongings.
The UCLA Newsroom Twitter sent out a tweet reporting the incident.
UCLA Bruin Alert also sent out a tweet saying the shooting occurred outside of an engineering building and asked students to get to a secure location.
The Daily Bruin student-run campus newspaper reported the following information via Twitter:
"Shooter is described as a white male about 6 feet tall, according to sources."
"Two victims down at #UCLA, according to police scanner."
"Many professors asked by administrators to cancel classes in the next few hours and email students. #UCLA"
"Shooter is wearing a black jacket and black pants, according to police. #UCLA"
