Pokemon Go player streams assault, robbery in Central Park

MANHATTAN -- (WPIX) -- Police are searching for a mugger who stalked a Pokemon Go player and stole his three cellphones in an attack that was captured on video.

Rickey Yaneza, 43, showed PIX11 News the three iPhone devices he was holding to livestream his Pokemon Go search when he was attacked by someone inside Central Park early Monday.

On the video, Yaneza says into the camera, "Look at me, just a lazy Pokemon player." Then comes the sound of fists hitting him and the jostling of the devices' cameras.

The entire mugging happened in real-time as he was livestreaming his search for Snorlax on the gamer site Twitch TV.

Yaneza's attacker is seen on the video wearing a headlight on his head. Captured on the audio is Yaneza pleading, "No, no, please no." Then the attacker runs away into the darkness.

"He had probably been stalking me in the park," Yaneza said. "I'd been going there for the last 10 days with other Pokemon Go players."

Yaneza had been been separated from his group of about 10 Pokemon Go players at about 12:20 a.m. Monday. Central Park is open until 1 a.m.

He was treated at the scene in Central Park near the Sixth Avenue entrance.

With a swollen jaw, a bump on his head and cuts to his elbow, the blogger who writes at Rickey.org is going to wait a few days before going back in the park to play Pokemon Go.

"He means nothing to me. I just lost three cellphones," Yaneza told PIX11 News. "He is a scumbag. I have no message for him."

Police describe the attacker as 6 feet tall who was wearing a black t-shirt and red shorts.
