Special Investigation: Calvin Harris acquitted after 4 murder trials in death of wife

UPDATE Dec. 20, 2017: Cal Harris, who was acquitted last year after four murder trials, was arrested Friday night on a drunken-driving charge related to a property damage accident in Cortland County, according to state police, USA Today reports.

Troopers said they received a 911 call around 7:23 p.m. about a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 81 South in the Town of Preble. A GMC Sierra pickup truck allegedly sideswiped the 911 caller's vehicle while both were traveling on I-81.

Harris, 56, of Owego, was identified by troopers as the driver of the Sierra pickup. Troopers said he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent, which is above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Harris was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater, and the following infractions: moving from lane unsafely, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and a license plate violation. He was ticketed to appear in Preble Town Court on Jan. 9.

While Cal Harris awaited word on whether or not he would face his third murder trial, his defense team decided to go on the offense.

Not only were they going to win the case this time, they were also hoping to solve it.

Cal Harris's life could only be described as a terrifying roller-coaster ride.

Two times he was found guilty of murder. Two times those convictions would be overturned.

Cal Harris's lawyers did some digging and they believed they found two other potential suspects.

Today -- for the very first time -- one of those men is breaking their silence to Crime Watch Daily.

Crime Watch Daily reached out to the New York State Police, who said "we appreciate the opportunity but we will decline responding to his allegations."

Former Tioga County District Attorney Gerald Keene never responded to request for comment.
