Person of interest in custody in disappearance of Cartersville mom

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- (WGCL) -- According to a supervisor with the US Marshals Service Fugitive task force, a person of interest in the search for Heather McDonald is in custody Wednesday.

Richard Harden was identified by authorities in the search for McDonald. Harden was identified for having an outstanding warrant for a sex offender registry violation.

Marshals arrested Harden in October in Carroll County. Investigators interviewed him about the search for Heather McDonald, but Marshals said they were not directly involved in the investigation into her disappearance.

“We looked for him as part of a fugitive investigation,” US Marshals Service Supervisor told CBS46 News. “The U.S. Marshal's Service was not part of the missing person case of Heather McDonald.”

Police say they suspect foul play in the disappearance of McDonald, last seen on September 18.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 leading to the recovery of 27 year-old Heather McDonald, who has been missing for more than two months.

Volunteers handed out pictures of McDonald and are taking to social media to help get the word out.

Federal authorities said they will reward anyone who can help find her and convict the people involved in her disappearance.

A car McDonald was renting, a red Jeep Wrangler, was found at the Courtesy Inn on Highway 411 with the door open and her belongings inside, according to her cousin.

McDonald is described as a white female standing 5'2" tall and weighing around 105 pounds. She has brown, wavy, shoulder-length hair.
