Search for missing 6-year-old continues; reward increased to $10,000

AURORA, Colo. -- (KDVR) -- A $10,000 reward is being offered for locating a 6-year-old Aurora boy who has been missing since New Year's Eve.

The search, being coordinated from Olympic Park, was intensifying late Monday for David Puckett after an Amber Alert was issued by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on Monday afternoon.

Vehicles leaving the south Aurora neighborhood at the center of the search were stopped at checkpoints, while bloodhounds were working and federal agents canvassed the area.

The Aurora Police Department has been receiving support for what it still considers its top priority.

At least 10 federal, state and local agencies have been contributing to the search for the boy, who is under 4 feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. Police said the search is still focused on a 2.5 mile-radius area.

"The next steps are we're going to continue searching," McCoy said. "We're going to continue following leads. So again, your tips are important. Please call our tip line."

An Amber Alert for the case was issued Monday. Police first requested an alert over the holiday weekend, but the CBI said without evidence of an abduction, the case did not qualify.

On Monday, the CBI said "out of an abundance of caution," an Amber Alert was issued. Police said the cold weather was why the CBI issued the alert.

The public is being asked to search their properties, sheds, garages, abandoned cars -- anywhere a small boy could hide.
