SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- (WBBH) -- A Sarasota day care worker was arrested for slapping a 9-month-old, authorities said.
Cheryl Ann Bolton, 70, faces a child abuse charge.
Sarasota County deputies said Bolton was working at the Christ United Methodist Church day care in April when the alleged incident happened.
According to the sheriff's office report, Bolton was seen slapping the baby and telling him to "shut up" while changing his diaper.
The school's director fired Bolton on the spot after interrogating her and seeing Bolton handle the baby in an "aggressive manner."
The Department of Children and Families took photos showing the baby with red marks on his face, consistent with being struck by an open hand.
