SAN ANTONIO -- (KABB) -- Police have charged a 23-year-old man with killing an 11-month-old child he was babysitting last Friday.
The child was being cared for at a home on North San Ignacio when he reportedly stopped breathing. According to court papers, Miguel Gutierrez was caring for the child and alerted a family member who called 911.
When paramedics arrived, they noticed bruising on the child's abdomen. They, in turn, alerted police officers who arrived after Gutierrez left the house.
The 11-month-old boy, identified in court papers as Xzavier Cortez, later died at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Xzavier's death was caused by non-accidental blunt force trauma.
