PUEBLO, Colo. -- (KOAA) -- Pueblo Police have announced the arrest of Donthe Lucas for the murder of his girlfriend Kelsie Schelling.
Schelling was last seen on February 4, 2013 after a doctor told the 22-year-old she was eight weeks pregnant. That same day, police say, Kelsie drove from Denver to Pueblo to meet up with Donthe Lucas.
Detectives with the Pueblo Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation served the warrant to Lucas while he was already in custody on unrelated charges at the Pueblo County Detention Center.
He's facing a charge of first-degree murder and will be held without bond.
Detectives have worked for years to find any evidence in the case of the missing woman, including extensive searches at properties across Pueblo. To date, authorities have not released any information on what was found during the investigation.
All of the searches involved heavy equipment for digging and personnel with shovels. The locations were the former home of Lucas' family, a culvert near that home, a brushy area near the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek.
Lucas was originally questioned in the case when detectives found he had used Kelsie's ATM card. The DA ultimately dropped that charge since there was evidence Kelsie had allowed him to use her card in the past.
