Colorado Springs man who fatally stabbed siblings 'can't stop thinking about killing'

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- (KDVR/AP) -- A 20-year-old Colorado man charged with fatally stabbing his two youngest siblings told investigators: “I can't stop thinking about killing people.”
Prosecutors played the video of Malik Vincent Murphy's interrogation and presented other evidence during a three-hour hearing.
District Judge G. David Miller ordered Murphy to trial on two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of 7-year-old Noah Murphy and 5-year-old Sophia Murphy in Colorado Springs. He also is charged with attempted first-degree murder for stabbing his father in the neck during the Oct. 17 attack.
Court records say Murphy told investigators that he had been thinking about killing everyone in the house for months “to be by myself.”
Public defenders indicated they plan to use a mental health defense.
Murphy's arraignment is set for April 9.
According to police, Murphy stabbed his sister and brother Noah while they slept inside the family home, then attacked his father with the knife, stabbing him in the neck. His father was able to fight him off and hold him until police arrived. Both siblings and his father were taken to the hospital, but the two children did not survive. His father sustained minor injuries, KOAA reports.
Detectives who were first on the scene described the amount of blood at the home, saying there was blood drops along the sidewalk outside, upstairs and downstairs and along the entire blade of the hunting knife believed to be the murder weapon.
In the recorded interview, detectives can be seen stopping Murphy from washing the blood from his hands as he tells them that he smoked marijuana the day of the attack.
Murphy admitted to being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and also told officers he had not been consistently taking medication for depression.
