15-month-old dies from injuries mom says were caused by child's uncle

Kassidy Smith died at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, according to the Hamilton County Coroner. Kassidy's 4-month-old sister, Korri, remains in the hospital.

The toddler's cause of death is listed as "apparent homicide." Her uncle, Recardo Woods, is charged with felonious assault in connection with the incident.

Woods, 19, "knowingly caused physical harm" to the girl on April 7, court documents show.

Danielle Stallworth says her young daughters were hurt while staying at their grandmother's home.

The grandmother left the children with Woods, a relative said Sunday. When she returned, both babies were injured.

Woods was arrested and appeared in court Monday.

CINCINNATI -- (WXIX) -- A family is searching for answers after two sisters -- 4-month old Korri Smith and 15-month-old Kassidy Smith -- were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

And now, a relative is accused of causing some of those injuries.

The girls' mother says she's just trying to get an understanding of this entire situation.

Danielle Stallworth says she left her young daughters in the care of their grandmother on Thursdays after the grandmother asked for them. She's struggling to understand why her children were injured.

"I just ask for prayer," Stallworth said. "Pray for her right now."

A great-aunt says the girls' grandmother returned home early Saturday morning and found the babies injured.

She says the children's uncle, Recardo Woods, is responsible for the injuries.

Cincinnati police charged Woods with one count of felonious assault against the 15-month-old. Her great-aunt says the toddler is brain dead.

“I don't want no bond. My daughter is not going to make it," the mother cried out during a brief court hearing. "She's not… I have to take her off life support when I leave here.”

His bond was set at $100,000 cash in the hearing onday morning.

"Investigation determined that victims suffered life threatening injuries as caused by the suspect," a Cincinnati police report shows.
