Off-duty Dolton officer shot in Chatham, officials say

CHICAGO -- (WGN) -- An off-duty Dolton police officer is in serious condition after he was shot in Chatham early Monday.
Darryl Hope, 55, was in the 7600 block of South Calumet Avenue shortly after midnight Monday when the attack happened. A gunman approached, police said, and an exchange of gunfire ensued. Hope was shot in his abdomen, arm and leg, and taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Masonic Medical Center.
According to officials, Hope may require surgery. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The attack could've been an attempted robbery, police said, citing preliminary information.
No one was in custody.
