MONTGOMERY CO. -- (WDCW) -- Thierry Nkusu, who was sentenced to life Monday for murdering his pregnant fiancé, was found dead in his jail cell at the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation facility Wednesday evening, police say.
Authorities say correctional staff discovered the 35-year-old man unresponsive around 6 p.m. during a routine welfare check. Staff attempted to revive Nkusu but were unsuccessful.
Police say Nkusu's death was a suicide. The investigation shows Nkusu used a bed sheet to hang himself. Police say he left several handwritten suicide notes.
The Takoma Park man was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court for the maximum sentence for first degree murder in Maryland. Nkusu was convicted by a jury back in April for killing Maria Mbunga.
