Ex-football coach accused of threatening ref in Iowa wants plea deal

DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) -- A former Lincoln High School football coach is looking for a plea deal.

Jason Storm is accused of verbally assaulting a referee following a questionable no-call in a game last October involving his son. Police say he threatened to kill the official and charged him with first-degree harassment.

Storm resigned as a coach a few days after the incident.

Court records show Storm is now asking the judge to accept a guilty plea for second-degree harassment, in exchange for a deferred judgment and probation.

The Lincoln quarterback, who is Storm's son, was involved in a hard hit on the field that Storm believed was targeting. The referee did not throw a flag. Storm screamed at the official from the sideline and then ran onto the field to threaten him face-to-face. A criminal complaint in the case claims he threatened to “f-----g kill” the referee. Storm had to be physically restrained and removed from the stadium.
