VANCEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said five people were found dead at a Vanceboro home in the area of Kinsaw Court on Friday, Jan. 24.
Hughes told WCTI that Michael Jay Ireland, his wife and three children, who are 8 months old, 3 years old and 4 years old, were found dead.
According to neighbors, Ireland, 39, lived at that address with his family. Neighbors recall him working on a shrimp boat in Virginia and rarely being home.
A family member hadn't been able to contact the family since Wednesday. Deputies responding about noon to a request for a welfare check at the location noticed no signs of forced entry, but saw a body through the curtain. Officials forced through the home, WNCT reports.
The body of Michael Jason Ireland was found in the bedroom, with a revolver located next to him. April Nicole Ireland, 26, was found dead alongside her daughter Caroline, who was 8 months old, on their living room couch. On another couch, deputies found 4-year-old Michael and 3-year-old Bryson dead with a single gunshot wound.
Sheriff Hughes said there were no signs of struggle, but deputies have responded to that home before, the last time being 2015.
