Captured: Escaped Wisconsin inmates caught in Illinois

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WITI) -- Officials say the two inmates who escaped from the Columbia Correctional Institution on Thursday are now custody.
Thomas E. Deering and James R. Newman were captured in Rockford and taken into custody by the Rockford Police Department Friday morning.
Newman and Deering reportedly escaped by scaling two perimeter fences. Officials said the two went to a local hotel, then took a cab to Poynette, Wis.
Friday morning, a woman who runs the Miss Carly's homeless shelter in Rockford, Ill. posted on Facebook that the two men showed up there wearing prison-issue sweats and thermal shirts.
She said she recognized them as the escaped fugitives and contacted authorities. She said Rockford Police arrived within minutes and “handled the situation.”
