CHICAGO (WGN) -- Bail was denied Tuesday for a high school senior accused of fatally shooting a transgender woman.
Selena Reyes-Hernandez, 37, was shot several times in her home in the 3300 block of West 71st Street in Marquette Park on May 31. Prosecutors said high school senior Orlando Perez, 18, provided an extensive confession to her murder in court.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Perez told investigators he left Reyes-Hernandez's apartment after finding out she was transgender and was “mad as hell.”
The Chicago Sun-Times reports after firing his gun twice at Reyes-Hernandez, Perez confessed to detectives that he went back to Reyes-Hernandez's Marquette Park residence a second time so he could shoot her lifeless body again, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.
Prosecutors said a number of security cameras captured Perez leaving and then returning with a handgun.
Although they lived blocks apart, the Sun-Times reports, there was no indication Perez and Reyes-Hernandez knew each other before they were seen on video surveillance returning to Reyes-Hernandez's home together around 5:30 a.m. on May 31, prosecutors said.
