DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (TCD) --
A 75-year-old man was allegedly punched in a supermarket parking lot and was threatened by a suspect following a social-distancing incident inside the store on Sunday afternoon.
The victim told police he asked a woman to "abide by social distancing guidelines" in a checkout line inside the store, located at 3044 S. Atlantic Ave., around 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety. He said there was no further confrontation with her inside.
The victim said a man approached him outside in the parking lot, accused the victim of holding up the grocery line, and punched him in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head on the pavement, according to police.
WKMG reports the victim claimed the suspect told him “One word and I'll kill you,” before walking away and getting into his car. The victim said he saw the woman in the passenger seat of the older-model Cadillac the suspect was driving.
Police said Tuesday the suspect, who could face battery charges, and the woman in the incident contacted police and were cooperating with the investigation.
WKMG reports the victim told officers he recently underwent surgery to receive a heart stent and was concerned about his health inside the store.
