Ex-Army medic gets 15 years for infant daughter's rape, strangulation murder

FT. CAMPBELL, Ky. (WZTV/AP) -- A former Fort Campbell soldier accused of raping and killing his infant daughter has agreed not to contest a conviction for second-degree murder and will serve 15 years in prison without parole, authorities said.

Christopher Paul Conway, 25, entered the plea Friday, shortly before his trial was to begin in Tennessee's Montgomery County, news outlets reported.

Conway's 8-month-old daughter was found dead on Nov. 14, 2017, with a dehumidifier cord wrapped around her neck. The autopsy indicated the girl had injuries consistent with being raped.

Conway was charged with aggravated rape of a child, two counts of first-degree murder in perpetration of a felony, and aggravated child abuse and neglect in early 2018, Clarksville Now reports.

Clarksville Now reports Conway gave a statement to police admitting to the rape and murder of the girl. Immediately after giving that statement, Conway tried to recant his confession, according to an innocence website set up on his behalf called Chris Conway's Justification.

Conway's two brothers and parents created the website, the Leaf-Chronicle reports.

Conway is a former Fort Campbell Army medic. The girl was one of a pair of twins.
