ATLANTA (WSB) -- A Georgia college student jailed in the Cayman Islands for breaking COVID-19 rules returned home on Friday, Jan. 15.
Skylar Mack, 18, spent more than a month in jail after breaking quarantine rules for tourists when she and her boyfriend went to a Jet Ski competition in November.
Police said Mack flew into the Cayman Islands and removed a tracking bracelet that was supposed to track her in quarantine within days of getting there so she could go to the competition. The couple was then accused of interacting with people for more than seven hours at the event while not wearing masks.
One court sentenced the couple to community service, then on appeal, to four months in prison. The Cayman's highest court then reduced the sentences to two months.
"It was a selfish decision. There's no reason that I can give you to grant me a second chance. I don't expect anybody to ever forgive me, but I would like for them to at least let me be able to show them that I did learn from it,” Mack told Good Morning America.
