NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TCD) --
A man was shot and killed Friday night after he reportedly approached a group with a butcher knife in a “prank robbery,” according to Metropolitan Nashville Police.
Police said homicide detectives were investigating a claim of self-defense after Timothy Wilks, 20, was shot in a parking lot in the Hermitage neighborhood of Nashville around 9:25 p.m. Friday.
David Starnes Jr., 23, remained at the scene when officers arrived. Police said Starnes told officers he shot Wilks.
Wilks and a friend were “participating in a ‘prank’ robbery as part of a YouTube video,” according to Metro Nashville Police, and the pair reportedly approached a group of people in the parking lot. Wilks and the friend were carrying butcher knives, police said.
Starnes was in the group and said he shot Wilks “in defense of himself and others,” police said. Starnes said he didn’t know about the prank in progress.
No one has been charged in the shooting. Police said the investigation was continuing.
