UNION COUNTY, N.J. (TCD) –
A New Jersey man accused of murder and burning the body “beyond recognition” was arrested in Texas near the Mexico border in March, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
On December 24, Christmas Eve 2020, Plainfield Police Department officers were dispatched to a call about human remains that were found in an outdoor area near the 800 block of West Front Street, Union County prosecutors said.
The Union County Homicide Task Force worked alongside the Plainfield Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and they identified David Chacon, 42, using DNA evidence.
Plainfield resident Oscar Rodriguez, 24, was named as a suspect. The Union County Prosecutor's Office charged Rodriguez with first-degree murder and second-degree desecration of human remains in February.
Rodriguez was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Brownsville, Texas, on March 28, NJ.com reports. Rodriguez was then extradited to New Jersey, where he’s being held.
According to his inmate records, Rodriguez’s next court date was scheduled for May 26.
