Indiana woman arrested in California in cold-case homicide of newborn left in Pennsylvania dumpster

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (TCD) --

An Indiana woman was arrested in California and charged with the homicide of a newborn infant found dead in Pennsylvania in 2007.

Police officers responded to a report of a deceased newborn infant found in a dumpster in the parking lot of a YMCA on N. Queen Street in Lancaster, Pa., on September 24, 2007, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

The infant was wrapped in a towel and plastic bags inside of a canvas bag.

The child, dubbed “Baby Mary Anne,” was between 35-38 weeks’ gestation, according the county coroner’s office, and the death was ruled a homicide due to complications of asphyxia.

Investigators determined the birth and the homicide allegedly occurred at a residence on the 200 block of Paradise Lane in Ronks, Pa.

Police said DNA evidence eventually was matched to the suspect, Tara Indrakosit Brazzle.

Lancaster Police investigators tracked down Brazzle to her Valparaiso, Ind., residence on Thursday, July 1, and interviewed her.

Brazzle reportedly admitted to giving birth to the child in Ronks, according to the Lancaster County D.A.’s Office. She reportedly told investigators she put the child in the dumpster days after the birth.

“Police did not immediately arrest Brazzle after the interview as the investigation was ongoing to determine whether anyone assisted Brazzle in the homicide or disposal of the baby,” according to the D.A.’s Office.

Brazzle reportedly boarded a plane to California the morning after she was interviewed by Pennsylvania investigators, who then obtained an arrest warrant for her.

Brazzle was arrested by San Jose Police when she got off the plane later on the day of July 2.

Brazzle, 44, was charged on July 2 with one count of criminal homicide. She was held in Santa Clara County without bond pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

Investigators have interviewed a man they believe to be the deceased child’s father, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reports.
