Abducted woman rescued after leaving notes in restrooms; suspect arrested

A Scott Township man was arrested on July 11 for allegedly holding a woman captive and assaulting her after the woman left a series of notes in public places seeking help.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the woman, who remained unnamed, wrote notes and left them on mirrors in public bathrooms pleading for help.
She had reportedly been held captive by the suspect Corey Brewer since May 1, the Post-Gazette reports.
One note found on July 10 read, "If I don't make it, tell my family I love them."
The victim reportedly left Brewer's address on one of the notes and said she was being assaulted, the Post-Gazette reports.
Officers from Scott Township reportedly went to the location and knocked on the door, but no one answered. They reportedly heard what sounded like furniture being moved around near the front door, but did not enter because they did not have a search warrant, according to the Post-Gazette.
The Post-Gazette reports officers called Brewer's phone and asked to speak with the victim, who told officers she was his girlfriend and they were on vacation. Another note was found after the call, and the victim reportedly wrote she was still being abused.
The woman's ex-boyfriend reportedly told Pennsylvania State Police the victim and Brewer were in a relationship. She reportedly applied for a protective order against Brewer in August 2020, but it expired a month later.
Police arrested Brewer on July 11 and discovered the victim.
According to a criminal complaint cited by the Post-Gazette, the woman reportedly told investigators Brewer attempted to strangle her, punched her, cut off her hair, and raped her. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she tried leaving.
Allegheny County court documents show he was arrested on charges of simple assault; terroristic threats; strangulation; unlawful restraint; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse; and sexual assault.
Brewer was released on July 12 after posting 10 percent of $5,000 bond. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 22.
