MIAMI (TCD) -- A Florida grand jury indicted two North Carolina men on Wednesday in the sexual assault and death of a spring-break vacationer in March, plus an additional murder charge for one of the suspects in another vacationer’s death.
Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 25, were indicted Wednesday for first-degree murder in the death of Pennsylvania resident Christine Englehardt, 24.
Taylor was additionally indicted for first-degree murder in the death of Illinois resident Walter Riley, 21, WPLG-TV reports.
Englehardt was found dead at the Albion Hotel on James Avenue in Miami Beach on March 18. Two days later, Riley was found unconscious on Washington Avenue. He was hospitalized, where he later died.
Englehardt and Riley, tourists in South Beach unaffiliated with each other, both overdosed on fentanyl.
Riley reportedly bought what he thought was Percocet from Taylor, investigators said.
Collier reportedly confessed to police in March that he and Taylor met Christine Englehardt at a local restaurant, where Collier claimed Taylor gave the woman a “green pill” as they walked on Ocean Drive, but it was unclear from the arrest report if she took the pill willingly, or if it was “slipped.”
Collier told police he believed it was the pain reliever Percocet.
Collier and Taylor are accused of going with Englehardt to her hotel, where “they had sex with her multiple times and once she was unconscious or out” the suspects “remained inside the unit and didn’t call for assistance or help and began to take all her items,” police said.
Police said hotel video showed Englehardt was staggering as they walked into the elevator at the hotel, the Miami Herald reported.
The suspects are accused of stealing cash, credit cards and the woman’s phone and leaving her in her room “without any concern for her welfare or safety.”
The suspects were reportedly recorded on video using the credit cards around Miami Beach, including at a liquor store.
Police allegedly found the woman’s phone and green pills in Taylor’s possession, the Herald reported.
The three-page grand jury report said Collier and Taylor killed Englehardt while committing sexual battery and burglary that resulted from the “unlawful distribution of fentanyl,” the Herald reports.
Evoire Collier and Dorian Taylor were both charged in March with burglary with assault or battery; sexual battery; credit card fraud; and theft.
WTVJ-TV reports a trial date was set for Nov. 18 for both men. Prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty, WTVJ reports.
