Texas shooting suspect arrested after chase wearing only red underwear and a hat

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TCD) -- A man who was allegedly connected to a June shooting that left one man hospitalized was arrested Wednesday after a police chase.
According to the Wichita Falls Police Department, officers saw 32-year-old James Hawkins walking down the 900 block of North Beverly at 1:50 p.m. Hawkins was reportedly wearing jean shorts, a black hat, and sunglasses, and was carrying a shirt. The department’s statement said the officers briefly lost sight of Hawkins but quickly found him hiding on the side of a barn.
The statement said Hawkins was wearing "only the hat and a pair of red underwear" when they located him. Hawkins and the officers got into a "brief foot chase," but they apprehended Hawkins and arrested him for evading arrest and two outstanding warrants. KAUZ-TV reports the warrants were for aggravated assault and terroristic threat to a family.
According to KAUZ, a man was found shot on the 600 block of Stratford in the early hours of June 27. The victim was reportedly shot several times and was hospitalized but is expected to survive. In July, Wichita Falls Police issued a warrant for Hawkins' arrest for aggravated assault.
Wichita County Jail records indicate Hawkins' bond was set at $29,500.
