CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (TCD) -- Police identified a woman Tuesday who they suspect threw out a backpack filled with human remains.
The Chesterfield County Police Department announced Monday that they were investigating a "suspicious incident" on the 11000 block of Hull Street Road at 1:50 p.m. According to Chesterfield County Police, a woman allegedly put a backpack in a dumpster behind a store "several hours earlier." The woman reportedly went back into the store without the backpack.
Chesterfield Police posted a screenshot from surveillance footage showing the suspect. She has blonde hair pulled back into a low bun and is wearing denim shorts, a navy blue shirt, and tan shoes.
Chesterfield Police Maj. Michael Louth told the Richmond Times-Dispatch a store employee thought it was "odd" that the woman put a backpack in the dumpster.
According to the department’s statement, the employee went outside to check the backpack and noticed blood on it. When Chesterfield Police arrived on scene, they "found what appeared to be human remains in the backpack."
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports an autopsy was underway to determine if the remains were human. Louth reportedly suspects the woman is in her late teens to early 20s.
Louth told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he wants to speak to the woman "to make sure she’s okay and doesn’t need any medical attention."
