MEMPHIS, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old man was arrested this week after police allege he kidnapped and robbed his girlfriend of five months during a date.
According to Shelby County Jail inmate records, Jabari Albritton was booked August 30 on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
WMC-TV, citing an affidavit, reports Albritton and his girlfriend of five months went on a date August 13. Albritton reportedly picked up his girlfriend, who remains unnamed, for dinner and began driving out of control and doing doughnuts in the street. They reportedly went to a gas station and the woman got out of the car to smoke a cigarette. According to the affidavit cited by WMC, the woman allegedly told Albritton she wanted to go home, but he refused.
WMC reports Albritton allegedly grabbed the victim by her neck and held her at gunpoint. He allegedly forced her to get into the car and allegedly threatened to kill her, according to the affidavit.
WREG-TV, which cites the affidavit, reports Albritton got a flat tire and told the woman she needed to pay for it. Albritton allegedly drove to a Regions Bank on the 3500 block of Mendenhall Road and demanded she give him her ATM card, according to the affidavit cited by WREG. She reportedly gave him the wrong number on purpose.
WREG reports when he learned it was the incorrect number, he allegedly fired his gun into the floor of the car and hit her with the gun. He also reportedly pointed the gun at her head and put it in her mouth. Albritton allegedly grabbed the woman’s wedding ring off her finger, which was valued at $2,500.
Albritton reportedly went back to the ATM and the woman was able to escape and run into a Q Mart gas station, where she called for help.
Shelby County Jail records show Albritton’s bond was set at $50,000.
