Teen arrested following fatal shooting at California city council member’s home

GILROY, Calif. (TCD) -- A 19-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after a shooting occurred at a local city council member’s home over the weekend.
The Gilroy Police Department said in a press release that officers responded to a shooting call on the 400 block of Las Animas Avenue on Oct. 30 just before 1 a.m. An altercation reportedly broke out at the "large outdoor party," which involved "at least one suspect" firing a gun. One person was declared dead on the scene and three others were transported to nearby hospitals. Two of the victims reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.
The victim’s name was not released.
According to the press release, the shooting broke out at Rebeca Armendariz’s home, who sits on the Gilroy City Council.
KGO-TV reports firefighters said in a recording there were "two neck wounds and one abdominal wound."
Armendariz told KGO she did not attend the Halloween party, though she was at home when the shooting occurred. KGO reports there is another home on Armendariz’s property.
On Oct. 30 at 4:15 p.m., the Gilroy/Morgan Hill Regional SWAT team obtained a search warrant for a home on the 7100 block of Church Street. They arrested 19-year-old Benjamin David Calderon on a homicide charge.
The press release said the victims ranged from 17 to 19 years old.
According to Santa Clara County Jail records, Calderon is being held without bail.
