BEDFORD, N.H. (TCD) -- A 54-year-old woman has been arrested for reportedly keeping her mother’s dead body in her home for months as she collected her Social Security payments.
According to a news release from the Bedford Police Department, on Oct. 24, officers responded to Kimberly Heller’s home to perform a wellness check for Heller’s mother, who lived with her. Other family members reportedly did not see her mother for several months. At the time of the wellness check, police said no one was home.
Bedford police said they attempted to perform the wellness check the next day, Oct. 25, but Heller denied them entry. Upon further investigation, officers executed a search warrant at Heller’s home, and they found her mother’s dead body, police said.
Heller’s mother reportedly passed away in May. According to the news release from the Bedford Police Department, an autopsy confirmed that she died of natural causes.
Bedford Police said in their news release that Heller’s mother’s Social Security payments were still being deposited even after her death. Authorities reportedly contacted the federal Social Security Administration Office regarding the payments.
Heller was arrested Nov. 18 and charged with abuse of a corpse. Her arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 6.
