SANTA ANA, Calif. (TCD) -- A couple was arrested earlier this week after a 2-year-old girl was stabbed and showed other signs of child abuse.
According to KTLA-TV, Santos Beltran, the child’s father, left his daughter with a family member who noticed signs of physical abuse.
The family member reportedly brought the child to a hospital, and medical personnel discovered a stab wound on the left side of her body along with other signs of child abuse and bruising. Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Maria Lopez told KNBC-TV that the bruises are in various stages of healing.
Police told KTLA that the stab wound was a result of a domestic abuse incident.
The parents were taken into custody as a result. Beltran was arrested and charged with attempted murder, child abuse, and domestic violence, KTLA reports. Ana Villalba, Beltran’s girlfriend, was arrested and charged with child endangerment.
Police reportedly say that the child is expected to survive. Three additional children were located and removed from the home by Social Services, KTLA reports.
