ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (TCD) -- A 21-year-old man from Sparta was arrested Monday for allegedly reporting his girlfriend who died of an overdose as missing.
According to a news release from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Zachary Joseph Taylor put in the missing person report on Monday around 10:30 a.m. for his 27-year-old girlfriend, LaDawn Marie Edwards.
At approximately 12:15 p.m. on that same day, a hunter reportedly located LaDawn’s deceased body in a wooded area on Gold Hill Road near Foulks Road in Madison.
Upon further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said detectives believe that LaDawn and her boyfriend were "visiting some people who live in the area and had started walking together in the Gold Hill Road area sometime Sunday evening (Dec. 19th)."
LaDawn allegedly overdosed and passed away in the woods. The Sheriff’s Office said they believe Taylor left his girlfriend there before attempting to report her missing.
Taylor was arrested and charged with felony death by distribution, concealing a body, and resist, obstruct, and delay of an officer. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Taylor was booked into the Rockingham County Detention Facility on $500,000 bond.
