Iowa teen facing attempted murder charge escapes from custody

WATERLOO, Iowa (TCD) -- A teenager facing multiple charges including attempted murder reportedly escaped from juvenile custody as he was being transported to a youth facility Monday, Dec. 20.
According to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, at approximately 4:50 p.m., 17-year-old Simon Agar of Des Moines jumped from a car at the intersection of Broadway Street and Wagner Road and fled. He was reportedly being transported from a court appearance to the Northern Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Waterloo.
Authorities reportedly used drones, dogs, and officers to search the area, including Brinker Lake in George Wyth State Park. According to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, on Monday, overnight temperatures went as low as 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that Agar was charged in Johnston for attempted murder, robbery, willful injury causing serious injury, gang participation, and conspiracy.
According to court records obtained by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, a man was shot during a marijuana transaction that had been set up over Snapchat. Two men reportedly came over to the victim’s home to sell the marijuana, and one of the men shot him in the hip. The victim was able to run off after a second shot.
Investigators used GPS monitoring and traced the Snapchat account, and according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Agar was accused of pulling the trigger. He is being charged as an adult.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 21, the search efforts for Agar were reportedly renewed. According to WHO-TV, Agar was wearing a dark blue jumpsuit, blue sweatshirt, and orange sandals at the time of his escape.
