S.C. woman allegedly bites paramedic’s groin, steals deputy’s Taser after leaving nephew at jail

CHARLESTON, S.C. (TCD) -- A 63-year-old woman reportedly bit a paramedic’s groin and grabbed a deputy sheriff’s Taser while resisting arrest in December.
According to WCNC-TV, on Dec. 28, Gina McGehee allegedly took her nephew to the Al Cannon Detention Center and left him there. Charleston County sheriff’s deputies reportedly responded to the jail and found the nephew, who said his legal guardian, McGehee, left him there. She reportedly took him because he used her cell phone to look up unsuitable material.
Charleston County deputies reportedly contacted McGehee and told her to return to Al Cannon Detention Center, but she refused. A report cited by WCNC says McGehee told deputies, "I’m not going back there. He’s your problem now."
She also allegedly told deputies to "send a cop to come take me to jail because I’m not going back."
Despite several attempts at getting her to return, the Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for her arrest. McGehee reportedly began resisting deputies as she was taken to the jail and being read her Miranda Rights. At one point, she allegedly took a deputy’s Taser from the holster and said, "I don’t know what I’m grabbing, but I’m going to use it."
The deputy eventually removed the Taser from her grip and placed her in a patrol car. McGehee allegedly began holding her breath and passed out, which caused EMS to arrive on scene and put her on a stretcher. When she woke up, she reportedly bit one of the medics in the groin area.
Charleston County jail records show she was booked on charges of third-degree assault and battery, unlawful conduct toward a child, threatening life, person or family of official, and assault of a police officer while resisting arrest. She posted bond on Dec. 29. According to court records, her first appearance is scheduled for Feb. 18.
