WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. (TCD) -- A 69-year-old man was taken into custody and is believed to have tried to slowly poison his wife to death.
According to a Wayne County Sheriff’s Department news release, on Jan. 3 at approximately 9:46 a.m., deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence on East Wallace Road. Fifty-one-year-old Lisa Bishop reportedly "had law enforcement indicating she was being poisoned by her husband."
Her husband Alfred Ruf reportedly "admitted to giving Bishop an unknown substance knowing it would eventually kill her." Bishop went to the hospital several times last year and believed it was a consequence of the poison.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Department officials collected samples of the substance and are examining it. They are reportedly looking for two other people they believe could be connected to this case.
Deputies arrested Ruf on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail on Jan. 3 and, according to records, was released on Jan. 5.
