GILBERT, Ariz. (TCD) -- A 46-year-old man was arrested Monday, Jan. 17, for allegedly shooting his female roommate to death.
According to the Gilbert Police Department, on Jan. 5, 22-year-old Raeanna Ferguson was found deceased at Dwayne Toone’s residence near the 3000 block of E. San Remo Avenue. The two reportedly lived together in the home.
KSAZ-TV reports that one of Ferguson’s friends called police to do a welfare check since they had not heard from her. Ferguson’s body was located on the kitchen floor, and investigators believe she had been dead for several days, KSAZ says.
Court documents obtained by KSAZ say several projectiles were found at the scene along with a live round, a casing, and blood residue near Ferguson’s body.
Upon further investigation, police reportedly located a pair of bloody shoes in the bathroom, and Toone had images of the gun believed to be used in the incident on his cell phone. According to KSAZ, lab results concluded that Toone’s DNA was on the handgun found in the garage of the home and the bloody shoes located in the bathroom.
Near Ferguson’s body, investigators reportedly found a note that read, "I don’t want him to shoot us. He’s freaking out. He wants to see his son."
According to KSAZ, Toone’s car was located at a Mesa residence. Toone was allegedly at the Mesa home on the same day that Ferguson’s body was discovered at the Gilbert residence. He reportedly stabbed himself in the chest with a hunting knife as police tried to take him into custody.
According to police, Toone was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder and booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jail. KSAZ reports that Toone has a criminal past, including a weapons violation and domestic violence. His ex-wife had an order of protection against him because he allegedly held a gun to her head, and she claims he abused their son.
