Florida man accused of fatally shooting father-in-law, dumping body as teen watched

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 29-year-old man allegedly shot his 33-year-old stepfather-in-law to death and dumped his body on the side of the road as the victim’s 15-year-old stepson watched.
According to a press release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at approximately 8 p.m., Ruben Pioquinto went for a drive with the victim and a 15-year-old witness, later identified as the victim’s stepson. Pioquinto and the victim reportedly began to argue, and Pioquinto shot the victim in the car at a Circle K located at 904 30th Ave E., Bradenton.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Pioquinto left the deceased victim on the side of the road, and deputies later found his body at 214 77th St. E., in Palmetto, Fla.
Pioquinto and the witness reportedly traveled back to his home at 313 21st Ave. W. Pioquinto allegedly threatened to kill the boy if he told anyone about the shooting.
However, Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells told WWSB-TV in a news conference that the boy told his family about the incident and detailed where Pioquinto allegedly dumped the body. Family members then called police at approximately 3:40 a.m.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, "The family members who all reside at this address were able to exit the house safely while Pioquinto remained inside." The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team reportedly arrived. Pioquinto surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
