NORRISTOWN, Pa. (TCD) -- A 21-year-old man allegedly shot his girlfriend’s 36-year-old ex-boyfriend to death Sunday, Jan. 23.
At approximately 2:41 a.m., the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says Pottstown Police responded to the 100 block of Sheridan Street for a report of gunshots fired. Officers reportedly found 34-year-old Sodonia Medunic outside of her home with apparent gunshot wounds. Medunic’s ex-boyfriend, Sean Robbins, was found deceased from a gunshot wound to the head, the District Attorney’s Office says. Medunic was reportedly brought to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
Upon further investigation, the District Attorney’s Office says Medunic was in a "romantic relationship" with the defendant, Avery Nascimento. The two reportedly got into an argument at her home over photos on Medunic’s cellphone. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Nascimento hit, choked, and threatened Medunic with a gun before allegedly telling her she was "going to die tonight."
Robbins reportedly learned about the assault and came to Medunic’s home. He and Nascimento tried to resolve the fight, but it evolved into a physical altercation, and Robbins ended up getting shot, the District Attorney’s Office says.
Medunic reportedly tried to flee from the home but was shot multiple times. According to the District Attorney’s Office, she fell on a neighbor’s porch and "played dead." Nascimento fled the scene.
Upon further investigation, the District Attorney’s Office says that authorities learned Medunic had a protection from abuse order against Nascimento.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, an autopsy report from the Coroner’s Office revealed that the cause of Robbins’ death was a gunshot wound to the head and it was ruled a homicide.
Nascimento was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, and related offenses. According to the District Attorney’s Office, he is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 2.
In a statement, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said, "My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim, who was trying to help his friend. This is yet another Montgomery County homicide related to domestic violence or relationship homicide. Please, if you are living in a violent situation at home or are in a violent relationship, call for help."
