SANDY HOOK, Ky. (TCD) -- An Elliott County man is accused of holding his girlfriend and her two children captive inside his home.
The Elliott County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy with the department and a trooper from the Kentucky State Police responded to a residence on JR Street in Sandy Hook regarding the suspected imprisonment situation. According to the statement, suspect Carlos Cox allegedly armed himself with a butcher knife and hammer inside their residence. He reportedly confiscated his girlfriend’s cellphone so she could not call for help. Additionally, he allegedly slashed her tires.
A man reportedly came by the house "who was trying to help," but Cox reportedly chased him away with the hammer and butcher knife.
When the deputy and trooper arrived at the scene, Cox allegedly "fled to the woods behind the residence where he attempted to conceal himself next to the cliff."
He was eventually taken into custody on charges of three counts of unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault (domestic violence), three counts of menacing, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and intimidating a participant in the legal process.
According to Rowan County Jail records, his bond is set at $50,000.
The Elliott County Sheriff’s Office will reportedly continue to investigate the matter.
