PORTLAND, Ore. (TCD) -- A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual abuse of a child and other related charges.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced Jan. 26 that Kyle Vincent Shinn pleaded guilty to first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, solicitation to commit using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, and tampering with a witness. The sexual abuse reportedly occurred in 2018 when the victim was 6 years old, and her parents contacted authorities when they learned what happened.
According to The Oregonian/Oregon Live, a grand jury indicted Shinn in November 2018 and he reportedly said he would surrender to authorities. Shinn and his mother, who was reportedly wanted in Montana for a probation violation, fled the state instead. U.S. Marshals located them and arrested the pair in Iowa in April 2019.
The Oregonian/Oregon Live reports Shinn allegedly made the girl perform oral sex on him about a month after he opened a craft beer company. KPTV-TV reports Shinn’s criminal record goes back 10 years and spans three states.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero said in the statement, "The victim, in this case, is now 9-years-old and has demonstrated incredible bravery as we’ve fought for justice for three and a half years. I am hopeful that today’s outcome helps her and her family move forward with their lives."
