COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (TCD) -- A 54-year-old man on the FBI’s Most Wanted list turned himself in to authorities in Texas over the weekend following allegations that he killed his brother’s ex-wife in a murder-for-hire plot.
Central Alabama Crime Stoppers announced Feb. 5 that Darin Starr went to law enforcement agents in Hondo, Texas, early that morning and turned himself in. Officials from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office are reportedly traveling to Texas to bring him back to Alabama, where he will be in custody.
According to the FBI, Starr allegedly fatally shot his former sister-in-law on Nov. 27, 2017. A warrant was issued for his arrest Dec. 1, 2021, for interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire.
WTVY-TV, which cites a federal indictment, reports Darin’s brother Jason Starr allegedly offered him a motorcycle and cash to kill Jason’s ex, Sara Starr. She was reportedly gunned down as she left her home to head to work as a fourth-grade teacher. The shooting also reportedly occurred days after the court ordered $2,550 be deducted from Jason’s paycheck every month to pay for child and spousal support.
According to WDHN-TV, Jason was arrested Dec. 7, 2021, for murder-for-hire. He was released but must wear an ankle monitor until his next court date in June.
