North Carolina father accused of killing 10-month-old son

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (TCD) -- A 23-year-old father was arrested last week in connection with the death of his 10-month-old son.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Trenton Powell’s son died on Thursday, Feb. 3. Officers responded to Powell’s residence at approximately 4 p.m., where they reportedly located the unresponsive child. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the Fayetteville Observer reports.
An autopsy was performed, and according to the Fayetteville Observer, the child’s death was ruled a homicide.
Police say Powell was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony abuse inflicting serious physical injury. He remains held without bond in the Cumberland County Jail.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, Powell faces additional charges, including hit-and-run/leaving scene of property damage, driving without a license, injury to personal property, and resisting a public officer. It is unknown if those charges are related to Powell’s son’s death.
