TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- Authorities are searching for a 35-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend last month.
According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 25, Camerina Perez and her boyfriend, Luis Montes, were reported missing by their families after they were last seen together on Jan. 24. Montes had reportedly made threatening statements about Perez in the past, and according to the Sheriff’s Office, family members were afraid she could be in danger.
According to KXAN-TV, authorities think Montes had been tracking Perez for months prior to their disappearance, and a witness saw Montes place a GPS tracker on her vehicle.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, though Perez’s body was not found, enough evidence was gathered to conclude that she was killed in the early morning hours on Jan. 25 by Montes.
According to the affidavit obtained by KXAN, Montes saw Perez with another person at a local supermarket and was reportedly seen hugging and kissing the person. After the incident, Montes allegedly called Perez and met with her at a bank parking lot.
According to KXAN, Montes severely assaulted Perez at the bank parking lot causing fatal injuries. Surveillance video from the bank reportedly revealed a pool of blood between the two cars. The blood was reportedly found by an employee in the parking lot the next day, and authorities say the substantial amount of blood lost could have caused severe bodily injury or death.
According to KXAN, the affidavit says police believe Montes drove Perez’s car with her deceased body on board to conceal the evidence. The Sheriff’s Office says an arrest warrant for Montes was obtained with bail set at $1 million, and authorities have asked the public’s help in finding him.
Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez said in a statement, "This is a horrible outcome, and my heart goes out to Camerina’s friends and family. We are doing everything we can to find Luis Montes and bring justice to her loved ones."
