Suspect accused of killing person found in burning storage unit says a song told him to do it

LUBBOCK, Texas (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing someone, leaving the body in a storage unit, and lighting the unit on fire.
On Feb. 12 at around 11:25 a.m., Lubbock Police were called when the city’s Fire Rescue discovered the body of a male after putting out a blaze in a storage unit on the 2700 block of North Frankford Avenue. According to the Lubbock Police Department, officers found 21-year-old Cypress Ramos deceased.
Upon further investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant and took Allan Montemayor into custody for a murder charge.
According to the arrest warrant, which was cited by KCBD-TV, Ramos was killed after being hit with a hard object. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Montemayor arriving at the storage unit with someone else, then leaving alone over an hour later. When police spoke with Montemayor and asked about what happened inside the storage unit, he allegedly shrugged and said, "Isn’t it apparent?"
Montemayor reportedly said he was in the bathroom and when he returned, Ramos "came at him with a bat." Montemayor allegedly said it was "me or him." Ramos' family, however, told KCBD that Ramos identified as female.
Police reportedly saw what looked like blood on Montemayor’s legs, which they swabbed as evidence. He reportedly told police a song he listened to told him to kill Ramos, and he believed Ramos heard a song that told her to kill Montemayor.
Texas Tech University’s Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs sent a letter to students "to address the tragic loss of a member of the Lubbock LGBTQIA Community who was taken from us on Saturday, February 12, in Lubbock," according to KLBK-TV.
The letter said there was indication "the assailant knew the victim."
Montemayor was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and is being held on $500,000 bond.
