Kentucky man allegedly shared child sex abuse images online

ASHLAND, Ky. (TCD) -- A 20-year-old man was arrested this week for allegedly sharing child sexual exploitation images online.
According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, an undercover investigation was launched. It reportedly led to the discovery of the suspect sharing the illegal content online.
According to police, on Tuesday, Feb. 15, a search warrant was executed at a residence. Equipment used to carry out the crime was reportedly seized by authorities and brought into a forensic laboratory for examination.
Police say Trevor Zachariah Smith was arrested as a result of the investigation. He reportedly faces multiple counts of possessing or viewing matter portraying a minor under the age of 12 in a sexual performance, as well as one count of distribution of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance. According to police, these are Class C and Class D felonies, which are punishable by five to 10 years in prison and one to five years in prison, respectively.
