WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TCD) -- A mother of five pleaded guilty this week to allowing the use of BB guns and Tasers on her children as means of discipline.
According to KFDX-TV, Ana Cruz-Trejo will serve 20 months in state jail after pleading guilty to 10 counts of child endangerment.
The Wichita Falls Times Record News reports Cruz-Trejo was taken into custody in May 2021 because she did not report the abuse that allegedly occurred at the hands of the children’s father, Jacob Lopez.
According to arrest warrants cited by the Times Record News, Child Protective Services reached out to Wichita Falls Police after observing injuries on the children’s bodies. The children’s grandmother reportedly told police she thought large red dots on their bodies came from BB guns. She also said one of the boys was punched in the mouth, which caused a sore in his lip.
Cruz-Trejo reportedly told investigators Lopez bought the gun to help with pests in their house but admitted he used the BB gun to shoot the children.
The Times Record News reports a detective wrote in the warrant that Cruz-Trejo "was present during the assault of her child and failed to intervene or stop her children from being injured and furthermore did not report the assault to Law Enforcement allowing the child to continuously be a victim of assault."
Wichita Falls Police announced they arrested Lopez in March 2021 on a charge of injury to a child. According to KFDX, Lopez’s case is pending.
