Virginia professor allegedly stabbed to death by son

VIENNA, Ga. (TCD) -- A 59-year-old George Mason University professor was allegedly stabbed to death by his son on Wednesday, March 2.
According to a press release from the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to the 9800 block of Palace Green Way at approximately 5:33 p.m. to a report of a man with a knife in the road. The man, later identified as 26-year-old Axel Buschmann, was reportedly found covered in blood. Police say a kitchen knife was discovered near a jacket he discarded on the ground as he walked away.
Police say Buschmann was brought to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and evaluation. According to police, authorities learned where Buschmann lived and performed a welfare check at his home. At the residence, officers reportedly found a victim, Dr. Michael Buschmann, on the ground. Police say he had suffered stab wounds to the upper body and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to police, Axel Buschmann had lived with Michael Buschmann, his father. Authorities reportedly determined that Axel stabbed his father, but the incident is still under investigation.
The younger Buschmann was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, police say. He will reportedly stay at a hospital and be taken to the Adult Detention Center following his release.
In a press conference, George Mason University Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Paul Allvin said Dr. Buschmann had been recruited at the university in 2017 within the college of engineering and computing. Allvin went on to say, "We did lose a great mind, great teacher, and by all accounts, a decent human being."
