Kansas man arrested for allegedly stealing 26 parking meters

TOPEKA, Kan. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested this week for allegedly stealing several parking meters in the city.
According to KSNT-TV, Topeka Police arrested David Allen Brookens II after being alerted by a city employee that there was a suspicious man near the corner of SW 8th Avenue and SW Jackson Street at approximately midnight on Monday, March 7. Officers reportedly located Brookens near where the meters had been taken and took him into custody.
KSNT reports police believe Brookens used a tool to open the meters in order to remove the money from inside. According to WIBW-TV, Topeka Police officers allegedly found Brookens with the stolen meters.
Shawnee County Jail records show Brookens was booked on counts of theft $25,000 < $100,000 of coin-operated machine or device, aggravated criminal damage greater than $5,000 with intent to steal scrap metal; agricultural property, theft, or mislaid coin operated machine of $1,000 to $25,000, and aggravated criminal damage greater than $5,000 with intent to steal scrap metal; other structure/vehicle/property.
He is being held without bond.
