Georgia woman convicted of killing boyfriend she thought was unfaithful

CHATTOOGA COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- A 54-year-old woman has been convicted of killing her boyfriend, who she accused of cheating on her.

According to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, on Dec. 30, 2019, Angela Rachelle Rowland accused her boyfriend, Ronald Moates, of being unfaithful. She allegedly hit Moates, causing at least 10 injuries. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Rowland then got a firearm and shot at Moates, hitting him twice in the chest.

Moates died before emergency personnel responded, the District Attorney’s Office says. Surveillance video was reportedly captured outside the home on Kelly Street in Summerville. The footage conflicted with some of Rowland’s statement about the night of the shooting, the District Attorney’s Office says.

On Feb. 25, 2022, a Chattooga County jury reportedly returned a guilty verdict in less than 20 minutes against Rowland. The District Attorney’s Office says she was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to WTVC-TV, on March 2, Rowland was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.

In a statement, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Chris Arnt said, "Murder and domestic violence have no place here in Northwest Georgia, and I pray that bringing Ronnie’s murderer to justice brings some measure of peace to the Moates family."
